Field 22: POS Data Code

Format: an12

12 alphanumeric characters, each position defining a POS attribute as follows:

  • Byte 1: Card Data Input Capability: indicates the methods supported by the terminal for the input of account number, card or mobile device data (POS Terminal Capability).
  • Byte 2: Cardholder Authentication Capability: indicates the capability of the terminal to accept/support authenticating data.
  • Byte 3: Card Capture Capability: indicates whether the terminal has card capture capabilities.
  • Byte 4: Terminal Operating Environment: indicates whether the card acceptor is attending the terminal, and the location of the terminal.
  • Byte 5: Cardholder Present Data: indicates whether the cardholder is present at the point of service and explains the condition if the cardholder is not present.
  • Byte 6: Card Present Data: indicates if a card is present at the point of service.
  • Byte 7: Card Data Input Mode: indicates the method used for PAN entry to initiate a transaction (POS Entry Mode).
  • Byte 8: Cardholder Authentication Method: indicates the method by which the cardholder’s identity was verified at the point of service.
  • Byte 9: Cardholder Authentication Entity: indicates the entity through which the cardholder’s identity was verified at the point of sale.
  • Byte 10: Card Data Output Capability: indicates the ability of the terminal to write or output data to a card.
  • Byte 11: Terminal Data Output Capability: indicates the print and display capabilities of the terminal.
  • Byte 12: PIN Capture Capability: indicates the maximum number of PIN characters that the POS terminal can capture.
