DCC Flow. Online Method DCC Flow, Non ICC card
We offer DCC conversion for CNP and Mag stripe transactions when the Currency Code tag will not be captured.
The terminal should read Chip data for chip transactions and send the host enquiry message when the card issuer’s currency and the transaction currency do not match. Terminals should always send the enquiry message to the host when the card is Mag stripe or keyed.
- POI Solution receives FX Rates on request from the Elavon Host.
- The consumer swipes their card.
- The POI Solution sends a DCC Inquiry Message to the Elavon Host.
- The merchant enters the transaction amount into the POI Solution.
- The POI Solution checks with the Elavon Host that the card is eligible for DCC.
- The Elavon Host confirms the card is elgable for DCC.
- When eligible, the POI Solution informs the consumer on the rates.
- If not eligible, the consumer is prompted to enter their PIN and continue with a non-DCC transaction.
- The consumer makes a choice from 3 options:
- Accept the DCC amount. The POI Solution informs the Merchant that DCC is accepted and sends the DCC Transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.
- Decline DCC. The POI Solution informs the Merchant that DCC is declined and sends the non-DCC Transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.
- Print an FX Rate Receipt. The POI Solution prints the receipt and the Merchant offers the DCC choice again now with Full Disclosure. The POI Solution then transmits the chosen transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.
- The consumer is prompted to enter their PIN and the POI Solution sends an Authorisation Request to the Elavon Host.
- The Elavon Host processes the request:
- When the transaction is approved, the Elavon Host informs the POI Solution, the POI Solution informs the Merchant, and the consumer is given a printed DCC Receipt.
- If the transaction is declined, the Elavon Host informs the POI Solution and the POI Solution informs the Merchant and the consumer is given a printed acknowledgement.
DCC Flow. Online Method, ICC cards only
- POI Solution receives FX Rates on request from the Elavon Host.
- The consumer presents their card:
- The POI Solution checks the Application Currency Code on the card.
- When it does not match the base currency of the POI Solution, a DCC Inquiry message will be sent to the Elavon Host.
- If it matches the base currency of the POI Solution, a DCC Inquiry message will NOT be sent and a non-DCC transaction continued.
- The amount is entered into the POI Solution, which sends the online enquiry to the Elavon Host.
- The Elavon Host confirms the card is elgable for DCC.
- When eligible, the POI Solution informs the consumer on the rates.
- If not eligible, the consumer is prompted to enter their PIN and continue with a non-DCC transaction.
- The consumer makes a choice from 3 options:
- Accept the DCC amount. The POI Solution informs the Merchant that DCC is accepted and sends the DCC Transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.
- Decline DCC. The POI Solution informs the Merchant that DCC is declined and sends the non-DCC Transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.
- Print an FX Rate Receipt. The POI Solution prints the receipt and the Merchant offers the DCC choice again now with Full Disclosure. The POI Solution then transmits the chosen transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.

High Value Contactless DCC Flow – Online Method
When a card is presented for a contactless DCC transaction, the following flow applies:
- POI Solution receives FX Rates on request from the Elavon Host.
- The sale is selected and the sale amount is entered.
- The consumer presents the card to the POI Solution using near-filed communication (NFC) and the amount is checked against the CVM limit.
- When the amount is above the CVM limit, a DCC Inquiry message will NOT be sent and a non-DCC transaction continued.
- If the amount is below the CVM limit, the POI Solution approves the transaction off-line.
- The consumer enters their PIN into the POI Solution, which sends the online inquiry to the Elavon Host.
- The Elavon Host confirms that the card is eligible for DCC.
- When eligible, the POI Solution informs the consumer on the rates and mark-up information.
- If not eligible, the consumer continues with a non-DCC transaction.
- The consumer makes a choice to:
- Accept the DCC amount. The POI Solution sends the DCC Transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.
- Decline DCC. The POI Solution sends the non-DCC Transaction to the Elavon Host for approval.
- The Elavon Host approves of declines the transaction:
- When approved, the Elavon Host informs the POI Solution, the POI Solution informs the Merchant, and the consumer is given a printed DCC Receipt.
- If declined, the Elavon Host informs the POI Solution and the POI Solution informs the Merchant and the consumer is given a printed acknowledgement.
