EMV 3D Secure 2.1 is a new offering by Elavon. The documents are in a beta state, but you can use these documents to test your integration with Elavon's 3DS Server. For merchants looking for PSD2 Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) management, our EMV 3DS service is a conduit to meet those requirements and apply exception handling.
- EMV® Three-Domain Secure (3DS) is a messaging protocol developed by EMVCo to enable consumers to authenticate themselves with their card issuer when making card-not-present (CNP) e-commerce purchases. The three domains consist of the merchant/acquirer domain, issuer domain, and the interoperability domain (e.g. Payment Systems).
- Elavon's new authentication platform leverages 3DS 2.1 to help prevent unauthorised transactions and protect merchants from exposure to fraud. The capability to authenticate consumers provides our merchants with liability shift for fraudulent transactions. The platform is processor agnostic, meaning merchants can use our solution to authenticate across their entire multi-acquirer enterprise.
- Elavon’s EMV 3DS platform is the first of its kind to use artificial intelligence to optimise the experience by monitoring issuer performance through an analysis of challenge rates and efficiency. Elavon is also the first acquirer to deploy EMV 3DS from the cloud. Our cloud strategy enables us to eliminate outbound calls for our merchants who are also on the cloud, while decreasing latency by almost 70% globally as we are able to originate transactions regionally based on the consumer, merchant, and issuer server locations.
- Our AI Engine works in tandem with EMV 3DS to handle exemptions and rules related to PSD2 SCA and Transaction Risk Analysis (TRA) regulations, focusing on conversion with issuers.
